Ask and Ye Shall Receive...

Jeff

On page 95 of the Tor first edition hardback, there's a paragraph that begins "Back then, he was a mischievous sprout..." Following? Good, well in that paragraph the line "his bright green eyes sometimes seemed too large for his face" appears twice. So, was it just a mistake? One of those human kinds of mistakes?

***A mistake. There is so much layering in Shriek that a couple of those types of things got through. Especially because I was moving things around a lot even in the final edits, to get the "mix" right.

My second question is about the machine in the underground sequence. See, I checked Secret Life out of the library, so I don't have it handy, but that sequence...seems repeated. Is it? Did you just rip it out of Secret Life and re-purpose it for Shriek: an afterword?

***It was always from Shriek, but it took me many years to finish Shriek, so in the meantime, I took that piece out and used it in Secret Life as a complete story and as a fragment to presage Shriek in City of Saints. But it was always part of Shriek.
