I did indeed read Evil Guest, and...well, I was unimpressed. At the end of that book I let myself off the hook for reading any new Gene Wolfe books. He squandered all his good author capital with me, and that's with my thinking the man is a genius, and loving some of his work deeply. I am done.

The Sparrow was really interesting. I liked it. Jesuits in spaaaaaaaaace!

The Charlaine Harris binge occurred during my training. I'd spent nine to five in class, typing notes like crazy and using my brain to its fullest and when I got home at night I just needed popcorn. It's delicious popcorn, with good hooks and lots of fun, but that's all it is. I also have a weakness for vampires. It's a character flaw and it hasn't yet led me to Twilight so I'm not too worried.

Oh, man! You've read Evil Guest? I have that one on my TBR pile, very close to the top :) And people keep telling me I need to read the Sparrow.

Also making a note to discuss Charlainne Harris's books in the future. I haven't read any yet, but have mostly been surprised by how much I like True Blood (netflix, season 1)!

I would not be opposed to picking up the next volume of the series, particularly for a reading vacation. I liked how tightly plotted the book was, and I liked the magic system too, except for the rpg overtones it had, which were a little distracting. Characters engaging too, and I liked that their actions had cost and repercussions.

I really enjoyed the Mistborn series. I found it very satisfying. (Plus, I got them from the library, which seems to make the experience that much more enjoyable...I don't know why!)
