My Waterman is bathing. I love doing this. Ink floats up into the water in twisting tendrils and clouds. When it has been all cleaned, I will put a new cartridge in it and it will write beautifully again. Perhaps then I will write beautifully as well.


I’m still losing hair. Lots of it. I have bald spots now.

NPR : U.S. to Send Health Books to Afghan Mothers

I link this because of the following statement : “The country has the world’s highest maternal mortality rate, and statistics for its children are grim, with one out of four children dying before age five.” I find it almost unbearable to think about 25% of mothers in this country living with the pain I’m living with and enduring the loss that I’ve endured. One of the things people kept saying to me, in those first days, was that they couldn’t imagine what I was going through. My answer, when I could answer, was that I hoped they never found themselves in situation where they could imagine it. In Afghanistan, there are far too many who can imagine it.
